Lisa King

Freelance work

Lisa is a print designer and artist based in London. Her approach to design is rooted in creating a story through print and colour, influenced by her cross-cultural upbringing.

Sarah connected with Lisa at the beginning of 2024, and have since worked together on numerous projects for Lisa's own clothing brand, collaborations, exhibitions as well as pop-ups in London. Lisa's investigative approach to her work and her background is something that resonated with Sarah's design process, and has continued to challenge her creatively, exposed her to the world of print and colour and kept her passion for preserving slow fashion techniques alive.

On uncovering a vast archive of Thai, Indonesian & Japanese textiles left to her by her late mother, Lisa embarked upon a journey to find out the story behind the fabrics to give them a new life. The capsule collection in collaboration with New & Lingwood aims to reimagine the brand's signature pieces using the Indonesian batik fabric collection, fusing British tailoring with Southeast Asian cloth and craftsmanship.

The collection was displayed for London Craft Week 2024 online and in the Chiltern Street boutique where customers were able to create bespoke pieces with their chosen batik fabrics. â€‹Sarah was part of the lead up to the collection launch, presenting the capsule collection and worked on developing bespoke made-to-measure pieces for each client. Being familiar with rethinking traditional garments in a contemporary manner, Sarah used the work from her MA as well as her experience in the luxury fashion sector to approach this project with confidence. She worked closely with Lisa and creative director Tom Leeper from New & Lingwood to honour the fabrics by transforming them into modern silhouettes.

SS24 The East London Flower Collective

The East London Flower Collective is a T-shirt collection featuring a portrait series of British florists, gardeners and growers shot by William Baker - telling the stories of those who rise with the sun to highlight flower markets and gardens. The collection features original mixed media drawings complemented by typography.

This was a departure from the previous project for Sarah, and she was able to see the inner workings of a small clothing brand and introduce herself to the world of gardeners and growers. Working closely with Lisa, local print companies and William Baker, Sarah aimed to dive head first to understand Lisa's specific customer base, brand ethos and style. The collection was launched with a pop-up in Columbia Flower Market through a collaboration with clothing store Vout.
